Beligian Grand Prix 2023
I think this is what they call a late post? Just here to say, Hello! I know things have been quiet here since last summer, and a little slow even before then. Life finds a way to fill time and spin me in directions unexpected. I have ideas for this coming F1 Season and hope to share some new recipes and inspiration here when I can find the time.
To be honest, I didn’t cook much more for F1 last year, but we did * go * to the Belgian Grand Prix! This was a lifelong dream for my husband whose family hails from Belgium, many of whom still live there. We had a fabulous summer trip visiting family members and exploring Belgium.
We explored Brussels a little including visiting some lovely art museums and the National Botanic Gardens, drive out to the Seaside for National Day, hiked in the Ardennes, ate plenty of waffles and fries, journeyed up to Westlvleteren, and then packed as much Belgian chocolate as we could fit in our suitcases on our way home!
Some highlights:
Going to the Belgian Grand Prix was definitely a life highlight. Wandering through Spa-Franchochamps and exploring the track was such a thrill. We biked to the track every day from our little Airbnb and brought picnics to enjoy on the muddy slopes along the Kemmel straight. It rained properly every day and after the days at the track, we biked back to the nearby towns to eat our weight in frites and drink Belgian beer to our hearts’ content.
The race weekend itself was a great experience, we got general admission which was fun but a little challenging with the mud, and with the sheer number of people it was sometimes hard to even get through to another section of the track. It was a blast though, and I am glad we got to tick it off our bucket list!
I hope you all had a few adventures in 2023 and are looking forward to the 2024 season. It is right around the corner now!
